Seven Steps to Mastering Business Analysis
By Barbara Carkenord

Seven Steps to Mastering Business Analysis includes specific methods and approaches for business analysis work interwoven with personal experiences of BA work. The steps provide a learning framework for business analysts that can be used for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. Each chapter includes links to specific tasks in the latest version of the IIBA BABOK® draft version 2.0, and provides many references to other books and publications that will support business analysis development.

“Barbara Carkenord has put together an excellent ‘How to’ manual to help BAs deliver on the value of business analysis to their organizations. The step-by-step instructions provide a practical guide to the practicing BA, translating her experience and insight to show you what it takes to be a great BA.”
- Kathleen Barret
President, IIBA

Welcome!

International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) is an independent non-profit professional association serving the growing field of Business Analysis.

The term Business Analyst (BA) is used to describe a person who practices the discipline of business analysis. A business analyst works as a liaison among stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies and information systems. The business analyst understands business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommends solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) describes common activities, tasks and deliverables of the BA.

The mission of the Central Florida Chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis is to further the business analysis profession in the Orlando area. We will accomplish this through:

  • Regular meetings with subject matter experts as keynote speakers
  • Educational sessions
  • Formal training and mentoring
  • Networking opportunities

Why Get Involved?

  • To share with and learn from some of the best business analysts in town.
  • To influence and contribute to the profession of business analysis.
  • To advance your understanding of Business Analysis best practices.
  • To position your career to address the business needs of organizations throughout the region.
  • To understand the role of the Business Analyst and how best to deploy those skills within your organization.
  • Prepare for CBAP certification.

The success of our chapter depends on the participation of our chapter members along with support from organizations who recognize the importance of the Business Analyst.

Open Board of Director Positions

Chapter Presidents Letter (New)

July is over and it is hard to believe that half of the year is already behind us.  At our chapter, it has been a busy six months.  We have had a number of successful events.  Just to name a few:

  • Monthly Dinners
  • Coordination for PW&WCBA
  • CBAP Study Groups
  • Networking Nights

The board continues to look for opportunities to provide value to our member base.  We have successfully completed the leadership transition and continue to bring up to speed new volunteers.

As chapter President, I want to take the opportunity to thank the Officers and Directors for all their hard work.  We live busy lives.  All of us have jobs, families and hobbies that demand our time and attention.  At the end of the day what makes this chapter successful is the level of commitment that each person puts into the chapter’s activities.  I am particularly thankful to those involved in the planning and coordination of the chapter’s events.  We have a terrific team that devotes lots of time taking care of all the details.

Also, I would be remissive if I did not acknowledge the hard work that goes into handling all the electronic communications for our chapter.  Events Notification, Newsletters, Website updates and e-mails demand lots of time and attention.  Many thanks to those involved.

Lastly, I would like to welcome the new Directors and volunteers.  Our current events and projects we are working on for the future (CBAP classes, Study Groups, Job Post, Surveys and Member Relations) would not be possible without your direct involvement.  We still have a number of positions available.  We are looking for Director of Revenue, Director of Web Communication, Director of Education, Director of Sponsorships, Director of Members Communications, Director of Special Events and a Director of Volunteers.  I encourage YOU to participate.  Come be part of a winning team.

This is a truly rewarding experience that impacts the lives of many in our community.  I am very optimistic about our future and our ability to do even greater things.

Regards,

Cj Cummings
President Central Florida IIBA
